                             Shine Bright

At Newlands Community Primary School we all ‘Shine Bright’

We hold our heads high and look towards the brightest of futures.

We have pride in ourselves; we ensure that our academic learning, physical health and mental wellbeing secure the highest levels of success for all.

We have pride in our school; we believe in our school and look outwards to find the best opportunities to support our children.

We have pride in our community; we care for one another as well as the world around us. We are inclusive, tolerant, respectful and welcoming to all.

Vision

We serve our community by providing an education of the highest quality, with exceptional experiences for every pupil, every day. This will be achieved by providing an exciting learning environment, which fosters a real love of learning and inspires our pupils to become confident, caring and responsible individuals who exemplify our school values.

Values

Values-based Education is a philosophy which underpins all of our thoughts and actions. It creates a strong learning environment that enhances academic achievement and develops students' social and relationship skills that last throughout their lives. The positive learning environment is achieved through the positive values modelled by staff throughout the school. It quickly liberates teachers and students from the stress of confrontational relationships, which frees up substantial teaching and learning time. It also provides social capacity to students, equipping them with social and relationship skills, intelligences and attitudes to succeed at school and throughout their lives.

At Newlands Community Primary School we are currently focusing on 6 core values which have been carefully selected as they represent the necessary values to become a well-rounded individual who develops both academically and personally.

The values for learning

Perseverance: we keep trying until we fulfil our hopes and aspirations.

Respect: we show acceptance, understanding and compassion.

Kindness: we are committed to helping others flourish.

Collaboration: we work together in friendship and community.

Responsibility: we do the right thing, show good manners and morals.

Honesty: we are honest with ourselves, our actions and others.

Self Belief : we believe in ourselves and keep trying.

Independence: we want or being able to do things for yourself and make your own decisions

Pride: We are proud of what we achieve and what we do.

Empathy: we have the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

British Values.

Being part of Britain
As a school, we value and celebrate the diverse heritages of everybody at Newlands.  We also value and learn about being part of Britain. This means that we observe traditions & customs during the course of the school year, such as Remembrance during the Autumn Term.

Democracy
At Newlands, children, parents, and staff, have many opportunities for their voices to be heard, and democracy is central to how we operate. One way we do this is by operating a School Council, in which student representatives are elected to discuss issues raised by different classes. The council has its own budget, and is able to effect changes within the school.

Rules and Law
We observe and promote the importance of rules and laws, both in and outside the school. Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind British laws - that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities involved, and the consequences when laws are broken.
Children are also encouraged to set their own Class Rules at the start of each year. 'Class Rules' are a set of principles that are understood by all and necessary to ensure that every class member is able to learn in a safe and ordered environment.

Individual Liberty
Alongside rules and laws, we promote freedom of choice and the right to respectfully express views and beliefs. Through the provision of a safe, supportive environment and empowering education, we provide boundaries for our young pupils to make choices safely.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance
Newlands Primary School is located in a culturally diverse area, and we are proud to promote and celebrate our different backgrounds and beliefs.
Mutual respect is at the heart of our aims and ethos - to develop an understanding and respect for a wide range of religious values, languages, and cultural traditions. One of our school rules is 'to show respect to everyone and everything'.

Extremism
Extremism is not part of any British or European value. The Prevent Duty is clear that extremism of all kinds should be tackled and challenged. Please see the Prevent Duty Guidance and its Guidance for Schools
