School Council
At Newlands Primary School our School Council gives pupils a real voice in school life. Elected representatives from Reception to Year 6 meet regularly with staff and leaders to share ideas, solve problems and make Newlands an even better place to learn and play. Pupils lead projects, represent their classmates, and help shape decisions about everything from playtime equipment to charity events and school improvements.
What we do
- Listen to classmates: gather views in class and bring them to council meetings.
- Improve school life: plan and run projects that make a difference (OPAL play, , eco-initiatives, fundraising).
- Work with leaders: present pupil ideas to senior staff and help monitor the impact of changes.
- Develop skills: build confidence, teamwork and public speaking through real responsibility.
How we meet and join
- Meetings: usually once every half term one elections have taken place.
- Elections: each class elects one councillor during the first term in the autumn.
The School Council at Newlands is pupil-led, supported by staff, and central to making our school a welcoming, inclusive place where every pupil’s voice matters.
